How 3D capture works
Our captures use 3D Gaussian Splatting, a technique for rebuilding real places as 3D scenes from ordinary images.
- 01
From images to a 3D scene.
We capture a space from many positions. Software works out where each image was taken from, then builds the scene from a very large number of small, soft, semi-transparent shapes, each with its own position, size, colour and transparency. Together they recreate how the space looks.
- 02
Why it looks real.
Because the scene is rebuilt from images of the real place, it keeps what makes a space recognisable: its materials, its light and its colour. People can move through it and see it from angles no single photo shows.
- 03
Where it comes from.
3D Gaussian Splatting was introduced by researchers in 2023 and has developed quickly since. It sits alongside photogrammetry and laser scanning, which are better suited to measurement.
How it compares
Viewpoints
- Photos
- Fixed, chosen by the photographer
- 360° tour
- Look around from set points
- 3D capture
- Explore more freely, from different angles
Sense of layout
- Photos
- Hard to judge
- 360° tour
- Partly, between points
- 3D capture
- Easier to see how spaces connect
Measurement
- Photos
- No
- 360° tour
- Depends on the system
- 3D capture
- No. Our captures aren’t surveys

Limits we’re clear about.
A capture shows the space as it was on the day. It isn’t measured, so it can’t replace a survey or floor plan. Very reflective or transparent surfaces, fine detail and anything that moves during capture can be harder to reproduce. We’ll tell you at the planning stage if any part of your space is likely to be affected.
Viewing.
We agree with you how your audience will view it.
It shows what looking round feels like. It isn’t what your capture will look like or how it’s delivered.
Demonstration room, made on a computer. Not a real space or a client capture.
Discuss a project.
Tell us about your space, where it is and who needs to see it. We’ll get back to you to arrange a short call.
